If you mean “Can I click a PayPal button on Amazon and sign in to my PayPal wallet?”, the practical answer is no. Amazon’s standard checkout does not offer PayPal wallet as a normal payment option.
The confusing part is that a PayPal-issued card can still work. In that case you are not paying through the PayPal wallet checkout flow. You are entering a card that runs on a payment network such as Mastercard, and Amazon treats it like another eligible card.

Does Amazon accept PayPal directly?
Amazon does not normally show PayPal as a wallet option during consumer checkout. In contrast, websites that directly support PayPal typically show a PayPal button and then send the shopper into a PayPal login or approval flow.
Amazon’s own Amazon Pay documentation lists eligible credit and debit cards as supported methods for Amazon Pay. PayPal wallet is not listed there as an accepted wallet option.
That distinction matters because people often use “PayPal” to mean several different products: the PayPal wallet, PayPal Balance, a PayPal Debit Mastercard, a PayPal credit card or PayPal Credit. They do not all behave the same way.

Can you use a PayPal Debit Mastercard on Amazon?
Where PayPal offers the PayPal Debit Mastercard, PayPal says the card can be used anywhere Mastercard is accepted. PayPal’s current US documentation also says the card lets eligible users spend from their PayPal balance.
That means a PayPal Debit Mastercard may work on an Amazon order as a Mastercard if the card and transaction are eligible. Amazon is not adding PayPal wallet support in that scenario. It is processing the card credentials through the normal card rails.
This is the biggest reason online answers to “Does Amazon take PayPal?” appear contradictory. One person means the PayPal wallet; another means a PayPal-branded card.
PayPal card availability and terms vary by country, so do not assume a product described on the US PayPal site exists in the same form everywhere.
Can you use your PayPal balance on Amazon?
There is no standard direct PayPal-wallet flow that lets you choose your PayPal Balance during Amazon checkout.
A PayPal Debit Mastercard can create an indirect route for eligible US users because PayPal says the card is linked to a PayPal Balance account and can spend wherever Mastercard is accepted. Again, that is a card transaction from Amazon’s point of view.
If your goal is simply to spend money currently sitting in PayPal, check which PayPal card products are actually available in your country before assuming this route exists.
Can you use PayPal Credit on Amazon?
Do not confuse PayPal Credit with a normal Mastercard number. PayPal describes its digital credit line as a product used through PayPal-supported checkout.
If you hold a separate PayPal-branded Mastercard credit card, that is different. PayPal’s US help documentation says eligible PayPal Mastercard products can be used anywhere Mastercard is accepted. In that case Amazon sees a Mastercard transaction, not a PayPal Credit checkout.
The product name therefore matters more than the PayPal logo. Ask: Does this product give me a normal card number on a network Amazon accepts, or does it require PayPal checkout?
Is Amazon Pay the same as PayPal?
No. Amazon Pay and PayPal are separate payment services.
Amazon Pay lets shoppers use payment methods associated with their Amazon account on third-party websites that support Amazon Pay. Amazon’s documentation describes signing in with Amazon credentials and choosing a payment method stored with the Amazon account.
PayPal is a separate wallet and payments platform. A merchant can offer Amazon Pay, PayPal, both or neither.
The similar names cause unnecessary confusion, but there is no technical relationship where Amazon Pay automatically means PayPal can be used.
What payment methods can you use instead?
Amazon’s exact consumer checkout options vary by country, account and order. Eligible credit and debit cards are the most straightforward alternative when PayPal wallet is not available.

That also means you should be skeptical of websites promising a magical “PayPal to Amazon connector.” If a workaround asks for your Amazon password, PayPal password or gift-card codes, stop.
Can you buy an Amazon gift card with PayPal?
Sometimes people try to solve the PayPal problem by buying an Amazon gift card elsewhere using PayPal and then redeeming the gift card on Amazon.
That is not the same as Amazon accepting PayPal. It is a two-step transaction involving another merchant, and the availability, refund rules and payment methods depend on that merchant.
Be particularly careful with gift cards because they are a common target for scams. Amazon Pay’s fraud guidance warns against payment requests involving gift-card claim codes or moving a transaction off the legitimate merchant checkout.
If you use a third-party gift-card route, use a reputable retailer and understand that disputes or refunds may involve the retailer where you bought the gift card rather than Amazon.
What if your PayPal card is declined on Amazon?
Treat it like a card-decline issue first.
If the card runs on Mastercard but the Amazon authorization fails, check the card status, billing address, available balance and card limits. PayPal’s own help documentation notes that its debit card can be declined for reasons such as card status, PIN issues or spending limits.

Do not assume the failure proves Amazon “doesn’t take PayPal cards.” The problem may be specific to the card or transaction.
Can you split an Amazon order between PayPal and another method?
There is no standard Amazon checkout flow where one part of the order is charged to PayPal wallet and the rest to a normal card.

Does this work the same in every country?
No. Amazon and PayPal both offer different products across markets.

The main advantage is practical: if a PayPal-branded Mastercard lets you access money you already keep in PayPal, it can provide a card-network route to spend those funds. The downside is that the transaction is still a card transaction and may not behave exactly like a normal PayPal-wallet purchase for funding, disputes or transaction records.
Check the terms of the card rather than assuming all PayPal benefits carry over unchanged.
