How to Make Money on Amazon Without Selling Products

You can earn money through Amazon without buying inventory, opening an Amazon seller account or shipping physical products yourself.

That does not mean the money is effortless. The legitimate options still require an audience, useful content, publishing work, task completion or another real contribution.

Three of the clearest current Amazon-run routes are:

Amazon Associates for publishers and creators, Kindle Direct Publishing for authors and Mechanical Turk for task-based work.

1. Amazon Associates

Amazon Associates is Amazon’s affiliate program.

You publish original content, recommend relevant products and use tracked Amazon links. If qualifying visitors buy eligible products or complete eligible actions, Amazon can pay commission income.

Amazon describes the program as a way for content creators, publishers and bloggers to monetize traffic.

The program currently advertises commission rates of up to 10% depending on the qualifying purchase or program.

Who is Amazon Associates best for?

It works best if you already have one of these:

a useful website;
an established content publication;
a niche newsletter;
a social audience;
product-review or comparison content.

It is not a shortcut around audience building.

A site with no useful content and no visitors has nothing meaningful to monetize.

Important 2026 Associates changes

Amazon updated the U.S. Associates Program Operating Agreement effective April 14, 2026.

Among the changes, Amazon added a clearer definition of original content, requiring commentary, analysis or transformation that adds value. It also expanded restrictions around paid or boosted advertising linking to Amazon.

That is important because the affiliate model is becoming less friendly to low-value pages built only to funnel clicks.

2. Amazon Influencer Program

Amazon also has creator and influencer tools connected with the Associates ecosystem.

Eligibility and available features can depend on social presence and marketplace.

For many creators, normal Associates content on a strong website can be a more controllable long-term asset than relying only on social-platform reach.

3. Kindle Direct Publishing

KDP lets authors self-publish eBooks, paperbacks and hardcovers through Amazon.

Amazon says KDP is free to use and can distribute books in more than 10 countries and over 45 languages.

Current KDP materials advertise:

up to 70% royalty on eligible eBook sales;
up to 60% royalty on eligible print books;

You still create a product in the broad sense — a book — but you are not operating a normal physical ecommerce inventory business.

Amazon handles print-on-demand fulfillment for eligible print books.

Is KDP passive income?

Not inherently.

A book requires research, writing, editing, cover design, positioning and marketing. Low-quality mass publishing can also create policy and customer-quality problems.

Treat KDP as publishing, not an upload trick.

Amazon’s current KDP guidance gives authors control over pricing and publishing rights while also making them responsible for the book and its promotion.

4. Amazon Mechanical Turk

Mechanical Turk, or MTurk, is a task marketplace.

Workers can complete Human Intelligence Tasks such as categorization, data research, transcription and image-related work.

Amazon’s current worker pages describe MTurk as a way to earn money in spare time by completing available tasks.

After a requester approves a submitted HIT, the reward becomes available through the MTurk earnings system.

How much can you make on MTurk?

Amazon does not promise a standard hourly income.

Available work, requester pay, task speed, geography and worker qualifications all affect earnings.

That makes MTurk fundamentally different from a salary.

Evaluate tasks by effective hourly rate rather than the headline reward.

5. Amazon Flex and delivery work

Amazon also operates delivery-partner programs in supported locations.

That is work for or through the Amazon delivery ecosystem rather than selling products on the marketplace.

Availability, vehicle requirements, onboarding and pay vary by location.

If your goal is flexible work rather than online publishing, local Amazon delivery opportunities can be worth comparing with MTurk.

6. Create content around Amazon without monetizing with Amazon

A less obvious option is to build an audience around Amazon-related topics and monetize that audience elsewhere.

For example, a publisher can create:

seller education;
logistics content;
marketplace analytics;
newsletters;
sponsorship packages;
paid reports;
software partnerships.

The revenue can come from advertisers or B2B partners rather than from Amazon itself.

Can you do more than one method?
